Debussy : Harp Works

AIthough Debussy wrote only two original works for the harp (the Danse Sacrée et Danse Profane and the Sonata for flute, viola and harp), a lot of his impressionistic piano compositions are also eminently suitable for this instrument, as is proven here by the brilliant Dutch harpist Ernestine Stoop. These works, in fact, ask for performance on the harp and Ernestine Stoop has performed them to great critical and public acclaim a great many times during her recitals all over the world. There is a great deal of interest in harp recordings nowadays as we see from the success Globe is having with the recordings of Edward Witsenburg and it may be of interest that Ernestine Stoop is his star pupil! Moreover, she also studied with the celebrated French harpist Pierre Jamet (1893-1991) who himself worked with Debussy on the Dances and the Sonata (written for Jamet!), so this provides a direct and unique link with the composer himself.
