  • Brilliant performances of the only two sonatas for violoncello and piano which Johannes Brahms has left us.

  • Godfried Hoogeveen and Frederic Meinders have performed these works to great critical and public acclaim in a great many famous music centers, and their interpretation of these master works will withstand the comparison with any other performance.

  • Although we are aware of the competition on CD, we are convinced that this CD will find a place of its own in the international catalogues, also in view of the fact that it has been issued in our mid-price series.

Godfried Hoogeveen studied with Tibor de Machula at the Amsterdam Conservatory where he finished his studies 'cum laude'. He then received a grant from the Dutch government which enabled him to continue these studies with the legendary Gregor Piatigorsky at the University of Southern California. During his four-year stay there, he played chamber music with Piatigorsky and with Jascha Heifetz, and he also taught the cello at the University of California in Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.). With no less than 35 cello concertos in his repertory he then started an impressive career as soloist and recitalist, which took him all over the world. The contemporary repertoire also has an important place in his work, and he introduced in the Netherlands cello concertos by Guida and by Dutilleux, while several other composers have dedicated works to him. He is nowadays also solo cellist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam.

Frederic Meinders studied in The Hague, finished his studies with Nikita Magaloff, won first prize at the International Scriabin Competition in Oslo and appeared all over the world with concert tours throughout Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and the former Eastern bloc countries. He is also much in demand as a gifted chamber music performer.
