Three great Russian Violin Concertos, two of them never before recorded on CD. Arensky, a pupil of Rimsky-Korsakov and greatly influenced by Tchaikovsky, is a relatively unknown composer (at east for the public at large), but his truly romantic and technically very demanding Violin Concerto, which was only published for the first time in the then USSR in 1949, is well worth listening to. Rimsky-Korsakov's Concert Phantasy on Russian Themes is the only work for violin and orchestra in this composer's complete output and as such already an important one. The celebrated violinist Mark Lubotsky brings the full range of his superb artistry and musicianship to give performances of the highest order on this highly recommendable CD!
