- SAKURA – a remarkable repertoire distilled into a completely original sound, brilliantly arranged and interpreted by the unique instrumental line-up of triomotion!

TrioMOTION – the ensemble's very name wonderfully suggests the wide-ranging nature of their musical activity. The musical equivalent of a triangle, "trio" represents the highest level of flexibility that can be achieved without detracting from stability, and "motion" refers to development and progress.

Constanze Betzl on flute and alto-flute, Bernhard Betzl on vibraphone and Rüdiger Pawassar on marimba. One would most likely associate this combination of instruments and range of sounds with the more avant-garde areas of jazz and contemporary music. And the three virtuoso musicians from TrioMOTION do indeed impress with arrangements in this style; but their repertoire takes them even further.

With tremendous musical expertise, perfect arrangements and, let's call it, an adventurous delight in interpretation, the ensemble dives into the world of Baroque sonatas and impressionist works, among others.

Founded in Kassel in 1994, the trio and their unique sound attracted attention from the beginning, and they have since presented their "special something" at countless concerts. TrioMOTION released their debut album "Silverwood" in 2002 with works commissioned by Kassel composers.

On SAKURA, TrioMOTION have reached a milestone on their artistic journey.

With Claude Debussy (Claire de lune), the mediator between romanticism and modernism, Lili Boulanger (Four Pieces), a remarkable French composer of impressionist music, and Béla Bartók (Hungarian Peasant Songs), an exponent of modernism, TrioMOTION give us a fascinating reflection of an exciting musical epoch. Rüdiger Pawassar delivers outstanding, sensitive and respectful arrangements for flute, vibraphone and marimba to all three composers.

And with the composition Sakura by Rüdiger Pawassar, based on a well-known Japanese folk song of the same name, and the trilogy YVY by jazz composer and pianist Heike Beckmann, TrioMOTION span the gap into modern, contemporary music.
