The new disc in the Young Talents, Debuts series, where The Fryderyk Chopin Institute presents recordings by outstanding Polish musicians of the younger generation. The debut album of Andrzej Wierciński – the winner of, among other competitions, the Fryderyk Chopin National Piano Competition in 2015 – contains works by Fryderyk Chopin, three sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti and Robert Schumann’s Carnaval op. 9.
It was recorded at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio, Warsaw, 3–5 May and 8–10 June 2015.
ANDRZEJ WIERCIŃSKI born on 21 November 1995, in Warsaw. He began regular music lessons at the age of six, from 2010 in the piano class of Anna Jastrzębska-Quinn at the Zenon Brzewski Secondary School of Music in Warsaw and since 2014 in the class of Wojciech Świtała at Katowice Music Academy. His principal artistic achievements include First Prize in the Budapest International Chopin Piano Competition (2014), First Prize in the ‘Golden Ring' International Piano Competition in Slovenia (2014) and Third Prize in the ‘Halina Czerny-Stefańska in memoriam' International Piano Competition in Poznań (2014), winner of the Polish Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2015). He was a finalist in the Darmstadt International Chopin Piano Competition, where he also won the special prize for the best pianist from Poland (2013), won First Prize and the special prize for the best performance of a work by Karol Szymanowski in the 17th All-Poland Piano Competition in Konin (2012) and First Prize and the special prize for the best performance of a work by Moritz Moszkowski in the International Moritz Moszkowski Piano Competition in Kielce (2011).
