With a lyrical modern jazz sensibility, saxophonist/composer Tim Shaghoian’s debut album is a thoughtful exploration of hope and wonder. Speaking to the beauty of human connection and grappling with the emotional fallout from loss, Shaghoian's compositions developed as gentle beacons guiding him toward a sense of clarity in understanding life events that have impacted him most. His nine original compositions, performed by his California-based quintet of guitarist Chris Janzen, pianist Kevin Person Jr., bassist Richard Giddens, and drummer Antonio Montañez, dance with subtle shifts of emotion while song-like melodies are framed in unexpected rhythmic and harmonic structures. The album was produced by modern jazz luminary Peter Epstein, a longtime mentor of Shaghoian's.
Saxophonist/composer Tim Shaghoian was born in Fresno, California. Soft-spoken yet resolute, Tim has developed a unique voice as an improviser and composer. In 2015, he recorded his first work as a co-leader with the avant-garde saxophone trio TTRC. The EP, Sunset EP, was recorded at the famed Los Angeles recording studio Sunset Sound. Tim formed his current California-based quintet in 2018 and recorded his debut album, Gentle Beacons, in August of 2019. Gentle Beacons features 9 of Tim's original compositions and a creative reimagining of the beloved jazz standard My Foolish Heart. The album will be released on March 20, 2020 on OA2 Records.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he studied with renowned modern Jazz saxophonist Peter Epstein.
