Different atmospheres and colors are created, which are also due to the sometimes unusual use of the "projector" instrumentation. All five characters take on atypical tasks for their instruments and thus cast an image that shimmers unclearly but is able to shine.
With his band PROJEKTOR, the Berlin saxophonist Phillip Dornbusch creates a special musical image, characterized by his compositional calculation and the courage to be free. A game between structure and freedom.
hillip Dornbusch (born 1994) is a tenor saxophonist living in Berlin. He started playing the piano at the age of 4 and discovered the saxophone at 12. After his school days, his first lessons with Ulrich Meyer and prizes with Jugend Musiziert, he decided to study music at the Hanover University of Music with Jonas Schoen-Philbert. There he also received lessons from Lorenz Hargassner and Matthias Schubert. In 2015, the native of Stadthagen moved to the Berlin Jazz Institute to continue his studies with Peter Less and Greg Cohen. His teachers also include Julia Hülsmann, Jörg Achim Keller, Marc Müllbauer, Gregoire Peters, Sebastian Gille and Chris Cheek.
After a stay abroad in The Hague and studying with John Ruocco at the Royal Conservatory, Phillip has been a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Jiggs Wigham and Niels Klein since 2018. Also in 2018 he released the album Beyond Traits with Black Bear Basement on the Dezi-Belle Records label. Phillip won the jazz prizes in Hanover and Munich with the Fynn Großmann Quintett and is one of the winners of the Frankfurt Music Prize with the Federal Jazz Orchestra. The tenor saxophonist can go on concert tours and festival appearances in and outside Europe, such as the Elbjazz Festival , Rochester International Jazz Festival (USA), or the Toronto Jazz Festival (CAN), look back.
