WOMEN OF MYTH & LEGEND is an anthology of piano works portraying iconic female figures from mythology, legend, and literature, composed by nineteenth-century French women composers who gravitated around Paris at a time when the city stood as one of the world’s avant-garde cultural capitals and when important advances in women’s rights were beginning to emerge. Yet pursuing a career as a composer in a male-dominated field remained extremely challenging, and many of these women gradually faded into obscurity. Long committed to rediscovering and promoting the legacy of female artists, pianist Elena Chiavegato — who lived and studied in Paris in her youth and maintains a deep personal connection to the city — conducted extensive musicological research, working directly on manuscripts and rare original editions preserved at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Conceived as a multidisciplinary venture reflecting Elena Chiavegato’s vision of merging the arts, exquisite dresses inspired by the characters portrayed in this music were crafted by fashion designer Emilio Bonadio. Officially premiered during Paris Fashion Week in 2025, the collection is now touring internationally, appearing on fashion runways alongside live concerts, as a true blend of classical music and haute couture. More than a rediscovery of forgotten musical treasures, this project pays tribute to the courage, resilience, and determination of remarkable women who defied the limitations of their time. May their stories and music inspire and empower women today and beyond.
