- Unique side-by-side musical pairing that directly traces the roots of Ludwig van Beethoven’s early style back to his Bonn teacher, Christian Gottlob Neefe.
- Rare Repertoire: It features Neefe’s seldom-recorded Keyboard Sonatas Nos.2 & 3
- Contextual Insights: The program serves as a practical audio documentary, illustrating the transition from the late 18th-century galant style to Beethoven's early formal breakthroughs.
- Cristian's previous Beethoven recordings (EPRC 0068) received many positive review from press. The clarity of his fingerwork got praise by International Piano (Summer 2025) and it was elected Critics’ Choice 2025 by Rob Haskins (American Record Guide).
On this recording, pianist Cristian Sandrin examines the musical relationship between the young Ludwig van Beethoven and his Bonn mentor, Christian Gottlob Neefe. The program pairs Beethoven’s foundational Piano Sonatas Op. 2 with Neefe's rarely recorded Keyboard Sonatas Nos. 2 & 3. By presenting these works side by side, the album illustrates how Neefe's instruction in the galant style, structural clarity, and expressive phrasing influenced Beethoven’s early composition style before his departure for Vienna.
