With It’s All About Love, seasoned jazz vocalist Donna Byrne makes a radiant return to Challenge Records, delivering her ninth studio album and reaffirming her place among the great interpreters of song. Spanning a rich career of nearly four decades, Byrne remains true to her roots, offering a heartfelt collection that honors the traditions of jazz while showcasing her timeless artistry.

This 16-track album brings together a thoughtfully curated blend of jazz standards, bossa novas, blues, and contemporary gems. Byrne’s song choices—ranging from the playful "I'm Gonna Lock My Heart and Throw Away the Key" to the tender medley "Because of You / Who Can I Turn To"—are guided by a deep personal connection to the melodies and lyrics. Each performance reveals Byrne’s effortless storytelling, exquisite phrasing, and unerring sense of swing.

The sessions, recorded over just two days in November 2023 amidst a run of concert dates across New England, capture the warmth and spontaneity of live performance. Surrounding Donna is a core ensemble of long-time collaborators: Tim Ray on piano, Marshall Wood (also serving as arranger and co-producer) on bass, Les Harris Jr. on drums, and special guests Scott Hamilton on tenor saxophone and Gray Sargent on guitar. Their musical chemistry, cultivated over decades, lends a seamless cohesion and intimacy to the recordings.

Among the many highlights are Byrne’s soulful reading of Judith Owen’s “About Love,” the melancholic beauty of “Blackberry Winter,” and a stunning tribute to Tony Bennett through beloved classics he championed. A special dedication to Chris Ellis, founder of Challenge Records and a dear friend, comes through the heartfelt rendition of "My Buddy."

Produced in collaboration with acclaimed engineer Katherine Miller, It’s All About Love benefits from a lush yet transparent sound, allowing Byrne’s distinctive voice and the ensemble’s rich interplay to shine.

Donna Byrne once again demonstrates why she is a treasured voice in jazz, blending tradition with authenticity and profound emotional depth. It’s All About Love is a celebration of enduring artistry, friendship, and above all, the universal language of love.
