Lou Koster is the first female composer in Luxembourg and is well known in her own country, but is now beginning to find also international recognition.

When the renowned performers, the tenor Vincent Lièvre-Picard and the pianist Emmanuel Olivier first listened to her French songs, they immediately were charmed and impressed and excited to produce a nearly integral premiere recording of these compositions, a project which was initiated by the archives Lou Koster at Cid / Fraen an Gender as well as the Centre national de l’audiovisuel in Luxembourg. Vincent Lièvre-Picard: “In my view, the ‘mélodies’ to Paul Verlaine’s poems should be part of the repertoire!”

She was a concert pianist and she taught piano for 46 years at the conservatory of Luxembourg. Her first compositions were French songs. Her art songs were published by renowned music publishers in Luxembourg and abroad. In addition to her songs, her oeuvre includes choir music, a whole series of pieces for the piano or for orchestra, stage works as well as the operetta An der Schwemm (At the baths).

Emmanuel Olivier studied the piano at the Conservatoire National de la Région de Lille, at the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, and dedicates himself in particular to the song repertoire and performs as a soloist and as an accompanist of many singers in Europe and Asia. As a répétiteur and assistant, he has most notably worked with John-Eliot Gardiner, John Nelson, Peter Eötvös, Christoph von Dòhnannyi, Christoph Eschenbach, Michel Plasson and Jean-Claude Malgoire
